The Enviro Thermocouple - Aluminum Coated (50-3405) replaces the worn thermocouple in these appliances, and its aluminum coating makes it a recommended choice for propane installations, though it can also be used on natural gas models.

Purpose

The thermocouple generates a small voltage from pilot flame heat that holds the gas valve open. When it weakens or fails, the valve reads the pilot as unlit and shuts the gas supply as a safety measure.
