A pilot that won't hold flame, or a burner that hesitates to ignite even after the pilot lights, often points to a failing pilot assembly. The Enviro 4 Way PSE Pilot Assembly (part 50-3623) replaces the worn pilot component in the compatible Enviro G42 gas fireplace.
This assembly is a safety component that confirms the pilot light is lit before allowing gas to flow to the main burner. The pilot flame heats the thermocouple, and once it reaches the correct temperature, the thermocouple signals the gas valve to open.
A pilot assembly that has weakened with age can cause the pilot to drop out unexpectedly, which is a built-in safety cutout rather than a fault to bypass. Because this component is part of the gas ignition system, installation should be performed by a licensed gas technician in accordance with local codes.
When replacing this pilot assembly, it's worth also inspecting the thermocouple or thermopile leads and the gas valve connection for wear, since these work together in the same ignition safety circuit.
