Purpose

The battery holder secures the backup battery that keeps the ignition and control module powered when line power is interrupted. A cracked or corroded holder can break this connection and prevent backup power from reaching the control board.

Other Notes

Check battery contacts for corrosion when replacing the holder, since a clean connection is what determines whether backup power actually reaches the control board.
